Win of the Week: Natural Sand Polka Dot Magnolia Dress

It is national coffee day today, and I am terribly excited about indulging in a cup or two later on today! Hubbie and I usually have a little coffee break whenever he comes home from work just to unwind and talk about each other's day so I'll make sure the coffee is extra sweet today. It doesn't hurt when we have a few leftover donuts to go with our brew!

But enough about coffee and onto the savings! This time around for the flash sale is the Natural Sand Polka Dot Magnolia Dress. I love this little dress because it has such beautiful neutral colors, which means it can be paired with any color. With temperatures slowly dropping, you can add your favorite tights and a cozy little sweater for the perfect outfit! It's inspired by the grace of classic magnolia trees that grow the official flower for the state of Louisiana so this sweet dress has all the charm and style for your southern little lady.
The main fabric of the dress is cut from a cotton material with natural colorings of polka dots. Three magnolia petals are cut from a neutral cotton fabric with a lovely flower design and are appliqued to the front and back bodice. The same flower design fabric can be seen in the hidden side pockets and in the pleated belt that is sewn to the front and ties at the back into a big bow. An extra full skirt is the perfect for twirling, and the back closes with pearl buttons because every true southern girls deserves pearls.
This darling little dress will quickly become a favorite, and it's just $39 this week only!

Storybook Dress Up Reveal

If you remember from my last post, I briefly talked about the custom order I was working on for a little papoose who will be dressing up as Daisy-Head Mayzie for a special day at school. I would have loved to dress up as my favorite book character when I was young, but my school did not have such a fun day. It would have been difficult for me to pick a favorite character anyway, but that's beside the point.

Since I seemed to have missed this Dr. Seuss book when I was growing up, I did a little research and familiarized myself with the character. I need to stock up on my book collection, especially since I have a little one on the way and I don't own a copy of my favorite Dr. Seuss book, Go, Dog, Go. Like so many others, I loved looking at all the eccentric illustrations and characters depicted. I was able to quickly come up with a design I thought worked well in capturing the character while still infusing a little of me as a designer.

I took the flower theme and ran with it. Instead of a solid fabric piece collar, I cut and sewed a bunch of individual flower petals to go around the neckline and sleeves. The sleeves had to be puffy, of course, there's something so child-like and girly about them. The color palette really sets the tone of the dress in a pretty fuchsia with a rosy pink accent in the petals and the wraparound sash that ties dramatically into a large bow at the back.

I cut two tiers for the skirt for extra twirling power and to keep with the flower theme. I found the most perfect buttons that is like the icing on the cake really. I love the way it turned out, it is exactly as I pictured it in my head. I hope the little papoose has a wonderful time wearing it and feels just like her favorite book character when she plays dress up!

Storybook Dress Up

Awhile back I was contacted by an awesome mom who wanted her little papoose to have her favorite book character's dress made so she could wear it to school during a special dress up day. I loved the idea and jumped at the opportunity. Every little girl should have some dress up clothes to cultivate her imagination and give her confidence and a strong sense of self, I think it's as necessary as food and water. Obviously, I had tons of fun playing dress up as a child, even if all I had were my grandmother's old clothes from the 60's.

This little papoose enjoys reading Dr. Seuss' Daisy-Head Mayzie though, so she will be getting a custom made dress. Honestly, I'd never read nor heard of the book so I immediately sought it out, and it's a super charming story. I ran with the whole flower theme and designed a dress fairly similar to the one seen in the book with slight modifications. I will be finishing the final details soon and will post more pictures later, but I'm loving how it's turning out!
