Mouse Character Inspired Toddler Classic Red and Black Bubble

Well, since I talked about the Mouse Character Inspired Polka Dot Cross Back Dress, I decided to wrap up the posts about our family vacation outfits with this little gem! I wanted something playful for my outfit, and it took some hashing out of several ideas before I finally came up with one of my favorite designs. I knew I wanted red shorts, but I wanted to incorporate buttons into it. I didn't want to just sew them onto the front in the middle of nowhere like they're placed as a cop-out design choice. I also wanted to keep the top part of the outfit black, but I wanted to somehow include other colors of white and yellow. It had to be a bubble, just because it had to be, there was no other option in my mind!

 

 

 

Multiple draft ideas

 

I kept coming up with different ideas that I liked but didn't necessarily work together well enough to keep. The first design looked too similar to the Cinderella Princess Inspired Blue Bubble with Pelplum, so that one was tossed pretty quickly. So then the objective was to make it look distinctive. I added side ties and a gathered cuff instead of the side tabs and elastic shorts seen in the first one. As you can see, I still had the buttons hanging out in the middle of nowhere, so I had to address that somehow.

 

My other designs worked, but they didn't sing to me. The front button down idea didn't sit well with me because then it wouldn't look right with so many buttons distracting you up top. There had to be a solution, so I basically combined all of them together!

The solution was as simple as adding a waistband that buttoned at the front with two tabs. It's functional and cute, so I'm quite proud of my design! The sides are open and are adorned with crisp white bows  that pop so well against the black and red. They were my way of incorporating other colors without it being too ridiculous. I had initially written the cuffs in as yellow on one of the designs, but that would have taken the outfit too cartoon-y. Not how I roll.

 

I love it when my precious little princesses send me pictures wearing Papoose Clothing! I absolutely love to see what they're doing and how they wear it! These are just two of my favorite fan pictures!

Mouse Character Inspired Polka Dot Cross Back Dress

Ok, so maybe not a princess, but still a wonderful animal dress up character. So I knew exactly what I wanted to make long before I actually made an outfit. It was actually a modified version of the Mouse Character Classic Red and Black Bubble Outfit. I had scratched the idea of the mouse silhouette for the yoke piece and went in another direction. I still loved that idea though, so I decided to use it for this little dress outfit!

Of course I had to keep the polka dots, I mean, take away the polka dots and you take away everything sassy and fun! I had a hard time deciding between red and white polka dots or pink and white polka dots. The older version is the red and white, while nowadays, every little girls wants usually pink and white. I liked both, but I felt the red and white was more classic. Plus, since the other design is sewn with red, I felt like the two should match!

It is such a sweet and simple outfit that really evokes classic style! I always like shoulder ties that cross at the back so I added that detail. The skirt is so full and girly, I can just imagine a little girl twirling and popping her foot. Add a fun bow and you're all set!

Cinderella Princess Inspired Toddler Blue Bubble with Peplum Outfit

Everybody loves a good rags to riches story, but Cinderella did it before it was cool. Today I will be talking about her blue ball gown I designed, the one she wears when she meets her prince! I wanted the dress to be fabulous, but I was in an adventurous mood and took a risk in the design. Besides the peplum, her dress is pretty basic. I wanted to jazz it up a bit and put more detail into outfit. My first draft is pretty much how it turned out.

I was getting bored with all the dresses/ skirts, so I thought it would be fun to make this one into a bubble. I kept the peplum, of course, and added a trim detail. I wanted some distinction on the yoke of the bubble to not make it so plain and simple, so I eventually settled on a pleated style that I think really makes it special. I scratched the original idea of rick rack peeking out from behind a strip of fabric, but I still like it, so I might just use it somewhere else on another project! The shoulders had ties that such a darling detail Cinderella's style that I thought worked.

I kept the basic blue and light blue color scheme of the main dress, but to add some contrast and bring out the white in the trim, I used a patterned fabric for the shoulder and back ties. I like how the pleated yoke adds just the right amount of detail to make it stand out without being too in-your-face. I know it's not your typical princess outfit, but the bubble style is so adorable; I don't see how anyone could resist a little toddler in a bubble! I love that people are responding so positively to it, but I keep running out of the patterned fabric. It's a good problem to have!
