Fall in Love with Papoose Clothing

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year, there is something so calming and refreshingly brilliant during the few lovely months that really epitomize the season for me! There are pumpkin patches to visit, hayrides to enjoy, piles of leaves to tromp through, and craft fairs to plunder, not to mention everything pumpkin spice-flavored. Then, there's all the adorably cozy outfits to wear that you can't really pull off any other time of year.

I wanted to create the perfect little Fall outfit that had everything I loved about the season wrapped up into its design. I wanted the colors, the feelings, and the versatility all there. My sister came to the rescue and found a bundle of vintage linen at a yard sale for great price. The print is gorgeous with all the lovely reds, yellows, and oranges that represent the season so well.

I kept the design simple since the pattern was so vibrant. I thought a more detailed dress would be too overwhelming, especially for a small frame. I found some buttons that have a burnt wood effect that immediately reminded me of bonfires and toasting marshmallows and the smell of burning yard debris after raking leaves and sticks. I wanted to highlight them so I switched up my usual placement of buttons to the front instead of the back.

I felt the dress needed a little relief from the vibrant pattern and some contrast, so I added a darling Peter Pan collar in a cream and brown color. It allows the eye to rest a bit but also adds a vintage touch. The sash was necessary to add a pop of coordinating color and help tone down all the others a bit. I love the sweet triple gathers at the front of the sash that add extra texture and dimension.

It is such a sweet dress, and I love recycling the vintage linen, even though there is a limited amount.  The colors are perfectly suited for Fall, it would be a great dress to wear throughout the season. It's a beautifully versatile piece in that a cardigan can be worn over it and tights would work perfectly to keep those legs warm. I'm thinking about making a skirt for me if there's any leftover fabric this year!

  1. Ashley, that is the sweetest little dress and your little girl looks adorable in it! I love the rich colour of the sash - nice contrast to the leafy pattern on the fabric :)
